Group Activity Cards

Statistics
and Probability

Number of players: 2
Materials: Spinner, calculators
Six Picks

Copy onto index cards the numbers shown below, one number per card. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile. Label the sections of a spinner "22," "25," "30," and "32."

One partner selects five cards and places them face up in a row. The other partner spins the spinner. Try to be the first to tell what sixth number would have to be added to the five numbers on the cards for the number on the spinner to be the median of the data set. Continue, trading roles each time. (The cards can be reshuffled for more than four rounds of play.)
