One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Copy onto cards the descriptions shown below. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile. Then copy onto a large sheet of paper (or several sheets taped together) the game board shown below.

Each partner places a counter on the "Start" square. In turn, each partner selects a card. The number on the card tells how many spaces to the right or left to move your counter. If the number is positive, move to the right. If the number is negative, move to the left. Try to be first to reach the last square on the right. If you land on or go past the last square on the left, you automatically lose.
