Sequence of Events

Copy onto one set of cards the digits 1-9. Copy onto a second set the "rules" for sequence building shown below. Shuffle each set separately and place the cards face down in two piles. Arrange four chairs in a row and number them 1-4. Place a fifth chair facing the other four.

One group member sits facing the other four. The group member in chair 1 looks at the top card from each pile and then passes the rule card down the row. After the group member in chair 1 reads his or her number aloud, each of the others, in turn, applies the rule to the previous number and tells the next number in the sequence. The fifth group member tries to guess the fifth number in the sequence and the rule.

Continue in the same manner, trading roles each time, until all group members have had a chance to guess the rule.
