Pit Stop

Work together to solve the following problem. (Hint: Draw a diagram.)

An adventurer is staring at a huge pile of gold in an ancient treasure chamber. There is just one problem: A portion of the floor has been dug out all the way around the square portion of the floor on which the treasure is sitting. The distance across the pit to each side of the center square is 13 feet. The pit is very deep and is filled with poisonous snakes. The adventurer has no rope, and the only objects in the treasure chamber are two 12-foot-long boards. How can the adventurer use these boards to get to the treasure?
