Group Activity Cards

Numbers
and Operations

Number of players: 4
Materials: Index cards, spinners
Time for a Change

Copy onto cards the numbers 11, 28, 45, 62, 84, 98, one number per card. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile. Label equal sections of two spinners with the digits 0 through 9. Decide which spinner will stand for digits in tens place and which spinner will stand for digits in ones place.

One group member selects the top card from the pile. Then, in turn, each group member spins both spinners, records the resulting two-digit number, and computes the percent of change from the number on the card. The group member with the largest percent of increase (or smallest percent of decrease if all of the numbers decreased) wins the round. Continue in this way, taking turns selecting a card, until no cards remain in the pile.
