Flavorful Probabilities |
A random number table contains the digits 0 through 9 in random order. In the random number table below, the digits are arranged in groups of three.
Work together to solve the following problem.
A company makes Fruiterrific fruit snacks in the following flavors: cherry, grape, orange, lemon, line, pineapple, banana, strawberry, watermelon, and peach. For the company's trial-size packages three fruit snacks are selected at random. What is the probability that a trial-size package will contain at least two of the same flavor?
You could use cards and items that represent each flavor to find the experimental probability. However, using the random number table would be much easier. If you assign a different digit from 0 through 9 to each flavor, the groups of three numbers in the table are like packages of three snacks. Use the random number table to find the experimental probability of getting a package that contains at least two of the same flavor.
