Group Activity Cards

Algebra

Number of players: 2
Materials: Grid paper
It's a Hit

Copy onto cards the equations shown below, one per card. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile. Write the equations on a sheet of paper.

Each partner selects a card and graphs the equation shown. (Remember, to graph a linear function, make a function table to find ordered pairs.) Then partners take turns trying to guess which equation the other partner graphed by calling out ordered pairs. If the ordered pair names a point on the line you graphed, say "Hit." If the ordered pair does not name a point on the line you graphed, say "Miss." Try to be the first to guess which of the equations you wrote on the sheet of paper and the cards your partner graphed. (Hint: You should be able to guess the equation after you have guessed any two points on the line.)

Equations to put on cards:

y = -1.5x + 0.5

y = 6 - x

y = x - 6

y = 5x - 2

y = 4x

y = 2x + 1

y = -x + 10

y = -4x

y = -3x + 11
