Group Activity Cards

Use groups of 2.
Materials: Grid paper
You're Right

From your grid paper, cut out squares with areas of 9, 16, 25, 36, 64, 100, 144, 256, and 400.

Select any 3 squares and try to form a right triangle in the space between squares. For example, try using the 9, 16, and 25 unit squares.

Continue selecting 3 squares and trying to form right triangles until you believe you have found all possible right triangles using the squares you cut. Sketch the right triangles that you find and label the side lengths.

Describe any strategies you used for finding squares that would form right triangles. Discuss your strategies with the rest of the class.
