Group Activity Cards

Statistics
and Probability

Number of players: 2
Materials: Index cards, spinners
What Do You Expect?

Make one set of cards containing the numbers 1 through 20, one number per card. Shuffle the cards and divide them evenly. Label equal sections of two spinners with the following events: draw even number, draw odd number, draw prime number, draw multiple of 2, draw number less than 5, draw number greater than 10.

Each partner spins a spinner. Each partner then writes the probability that these two events will occur for the numbers on the cards in his or her hand with replacement of the first card before drawing the second. The partner with the greater probability wins the round. Continue in this way until you have played all of the cards in your hand. Then shuffle the cards together and play again. This time, write the probability that the two events will occur for the cards in your hand without replacement.
