Number of players: 3 or 4
Materials: Spinners

Label equal sections of one spinner "10," "25," "35," "40," "50," "55." These numbers indicate speed in miles per hour. Label equal sections of a second spinner "0.5," "0.4," "0.3," "0.2," "1," and "2." These numbers indicate number of hours traveled.

The object of this game is to be the first to "travel" 200 miles. One group member spins both spinners. He or she can then determine the distance "traveled" on this turn by writing and solving a proportion. (For example, a spin of 10 and 0.2 means that you traveled 10 miles per hour for 0.2 hours, so you would write . Solving for x, this is a distance of 10 · 0.2, or 2, miles.) Continue in the same way, taking turns at the spinner, until the sum of the distance found by one group member is 200 miles.
