Me and My Shadow

Measure each other's height in meters.

This activity must be done on a sunny day.

One partner stands near a tall object such as a flagpole or the pole a basketball hoop is attached to. The other partner measures the length in meters of the first partner's shadow and the length of the object's shadow. Working together, write and solve a proportion to determine the height of the object. Repeat the activity, using the other partner's height and a different tall object.
