Group Activity Cards

Use groups of 2. Materials: Graphing calculator The Lawn Mowing Business

In this activity, each group will expand on an activity using linear functions. Suppose that you mow lawns. For each lawn that you mow, you will receive \$5 for reserving a time and \$6 dollars for each hour that you mow. In groups of 2, write a linear function for the data, define the x and y variables and graph the function. You may use a graphing calculator to check your graph but you must have a picture of your graph on grid paper. Make sure to label your graph. Next, in your groups decide on another problem that could be modeled with a linear function. You will give this problem to your class mates to solve. This problem could be a variation such as a different dollar amount per hour or you could write an entirely different problem. Your group needs to write the problem, and write at least 2 questions for the other students to answer. Make sure that you include instructions for the students to graph the functions.

Finally, pair up with another group of 2 and solve each other's problem.
