Lend a Hand

Each partner places the fingers and thumb of one hand together and traces the outline of the hand onto centimeter grid paper. Extend the lines to form a closed figure. Then shade the figure. Trade papers with your partner.

Estimate what percent of the grid paper is shaded. (Hint: To estimate the area of an irregular figure, find the median of the number of completely shaded squares and the number of partially shaded squares.)
