Geometry Use groups of 2. Materials: Index cards, spinners, grid paper, colored pencils

Triangle Demolition Derby

Copy onto cards the vertices of triangles shown below. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile. Label equal sections of two spinners "-4," "-3," "-2," "-1," "1," "2," "3," "4." Decide which spinner names x-coordinates and which spinner names y-coordinates.

Each group member selects a card from the pile and graphs the triangle described on the same coordinate plane. Then, in turn, each group member spins both spinners and uses the resulting ordered pair to translate his or her original figure. If your translation touches or overlaps with another group member's translation, award yourself 1 point.

Repeat the procedure several times, reshuffling the cards when necessary. The group member with the most points wins.
