Group Activity Cards

Algebra

Use groups of 3 or more.
Materials: Index cards, counters
Four in a Row

On a sheet of paper, each group member draws a grid like the one shown below. Make the squares as large as possible. Write the expressions, also shown below, in the squares. No two group members' game cards should be exactly alike. Copy onto cards the phrases at the bottom of this page.

One group member reads each phrase. All group members then place a counter on the matching algebraic expression. Try to be the first to cover four squares in a row, including diagonally.

Expressions to write on grid:

x + 10

z + 3

13 - 4h

2t - 4

a - 2

16r

3y + 11

27 - b

41 - q

j + 8

3 + z
16 ÷ c 4h - 13
2d - 5

w ÷ 2

Phrases to put on cards:

10 more than x
the quotient of w and 2
a decreased by 2
the sum of three times y and 11
27 less b
13 less the product of 4 and h
j increased by 8
the quotient of 16 and c
5 less than twice d
13 less than 4 times h
twice t minus 4
the product of r and 16
s divided into 20 groups
the difference between 41 and q
z more than 3
z increased by 3
