A History That Still Touches Our Lives

Teach Me!

Goal:

This Academic Connection will encourage you to think about how the history of computers and keyboarding plays a part in your daily life.

Background:

Computers and keyboarding have become an everyday part of our lives. Some people may tell you that this happened only recently. Your teachers, parents, or grandparents may say that they remember seeing their first computer only 10 or 15 years before you were born. Actually, computers and keyboarding have a long history. Many people have worked hard to make and improve the computers and keyboards people use in classes and at work each day.

Perhaps those of us who use keyboards so often should think about the people who came before us in the long history of computers and keyboarding. The work those people did still touches our lives today. Perhaps we should think of the people who helped make our lives with our computers and keyboards easier.

Who knows, maybe in 20 or 30 years you or one of your classmates will also make a contribution to the history of keyboarding and computers.

For now, let's see if you can tell real historical events from false ones. Go to the Let Me Try It!: Part A.
