Creating a Book Share
Teach Me!
Goal:
You will learn how to take part in a Computer
and Keyboarding Book Share.
Book Shares:
People talk about the books they read. You
probably have friends who suggest to you books you may like to read.
They may also have warned you not to read a certain book. Some people
join groups, such as book clubs or book shares, just to talk about or
share information about books. Some of the book clubs or book shares
are devoted to certain kinds of book. There are Mystery Book Shares,
Harry Potter Book Shares, Animal Book Shares, and many others.
Computer and Keyboarding Book Share:
In a Computer and Keyboarding Book Share, people
read and share information about books that deal with computers and
keyboarding or books in which computers or keyboarding are important
parts of the story.
Computer and Keyboarding Books:
Some books tell stories that are mainly about
computers and keyboarding. For example, the book Snail Mail,
No More by Paula Danziger and Ann M. Martin describes how distance
and life events test the friendship of two young women, Elizabeth and
Tara. Much of this book is actually told through email messages the
friends send one another. This book contains many references to computers
and keyboarding.
Sometimes computers and keyboards play an important
part in the background of books. The Poems of Jeremy Bloom, for
example, tells the story of Jeremy's poetry writing and his great dislike
(initially) for his English teacher and of poetry. How does a computer
play a part in that story? Jeremy writes his poetry on his computer.
Doing a Book Share:
In this Academic Connection, you will learn
how to set up a Book Share that focuses on books dealing with computers
and keyboarding. The books may be primarily about computers and keyboarding,
such as the Snail Mail, No More example, or they may simply
include computers and keyboards, as does The Poems of Jeremy Bloom.
You may also choose fiction books or non-fiction books. To find out
more about the Book Share, go to the Let Me Try It!.
