Interjections Tips:
An interjection is a word or group of words added
to other words to show (a) strong feeling, (b) hesitation, (c) confusion,
or (d) another reaction.
An interjection may be followed by an exclamation point or by a comma.
Exclamation points indicate stronger feelings.
Often the first word following an interjection is capitalized.
Directions: Study the examples below to see how interjections
may be punctuated. The parts in italic are the interjections in the sentences.
Notice what words are capitalized.
- Hooray! I passed my keyboarding test!
- Sorry, I need the computer to write my paper.
- Hey, did you download this old game from the Internet?
- Whoa! Your modem is fast.
