Technology has enabled us to use microbes in many ways that are beneficial to humans. One industry that has started using bacteria is the mining industry. Microbes help increase the amount of ore that can be extracted as well as decrease costs. However, the methods aren't perfect. What is the main problem associated with biomining today?

The National Center for Science Literacy, Education, and Technology has many links to a variety of science topics. Click on "For Kids" and then scroll down to "Infection, Detection, Protection".
