New to the 8th Edition

Seven chapters have been completely replaced, and most of the others have been substantially revised.

Newly added and expanded topics include the biology of viruses and bacteria, homeotic genes, molecular phylogeny, the genetic components of animal behavior, and developmental genetics.

The chapter on photosynthesis has been expanded into a new chapter, "Autotrophy: Collecting Energy from the Nonliving Environment," that deals with both photosynthesis and chemoautotrophy.
