 Problem of the Week
Chapter 1

Solutions

Teachers Notes:

Problem 1:
Using the information given, students should conclude that the chemistry and mineralogy of the lunar samples are useful tools in proving that man landed on the moon in the Apollo space flights. Since all three lunar samples are similar and they differ from the Earth samples, one can conclude that they are from the Moon.

Problem 2:
A theory is an explanation of observed events or phenomena. If all of the available information supports the theory then it is considered valid. However, if any information does not support the theory then it is disproved and a new explanation must be developed based on the available information.
