 Problem of the Week
Chapter 7

Solutions

Teachers Notes:

Problem 1:
Iridium, atomic number = 77, is a transition element located in period and group 8B.

Problem 2:
[Xe]6s24f145d7

Problem 3:
Iridium would exhibit magnetism because of unpaired d electrons.

Problem 4:
Because iridium is corrosion-resistant it would be insoluble in groundwater. Therefore, the iridium atoms would tend to remain in the sediment instead of being transported in water solutions as metallic ions.
