An Exciting New Way to Teach and Learn Science
Scientific literacy is more important than ever before.
Yet traditional science classes don't always succeed in engaging
students and effectively teaching fundamentals. Science Links
is specifically designed to address these issues and prepare students
for future science study.
The Integrated Science Curriculum
Science Links is an integrated curriculum for high school general/physical
science students. It consists of 14 self-contained modules, each built
around a theme of interest to teens such as "What's for Lunch,"
a study of the chemistry of life, "Quake, Bake and Shake," a
study of the active Earth, and 12 others.
All of the core science areas--biology, chemistry, physics, and earth/space
science are addressed in each module. The modules can be used in any order.
Activity-Based Instruction
Sixty-five percent or more of each module's content centers around investigations.
These hands-on, exploratory activities are designed for small groups and
follow a consistent instructional process.
- Brief video segments set the stage for learning.
- Questions are posed and procedures are set.
- Small group breakouts allow students to discuss the investigations and
agree on results.
- Presentations allow students to share what they've learned with the
rest of the class.
- Science readings highlight key concepts.
- Homework questions help students summarize learning.
Making Science Relevant
The investigations let students make the connection between science and
their everyday lives. Special features such as "Career Links"
also show them how they can apply their knowledge in the workplace.
