Module 4: Current Thoughts

A Study of Electricity and Magnetism

Description
In this module students will learn about electrical and magnetic effects in the operation of batteries and electroplating technology, in the generation of electrical power, and in the behavior of the nervous system. Students will also explore how materials differ in electrical conductivity, how electrostatic charges accumulate and produce lightning, and how computers use electricity and magnetism to store and transmit information.

Investigations
For each investigation, the science or sciences that form the principal focus of that investigation are noted.

Investigation 1: What is Static Electricity? Physics and Earth/Space
Investigation 2: No Static, Please Physics
Investigation 3: Not All Circuits Are Alike Physics
Investigation 4: Electricity Express Physics and Chemistry
Investigation 5: Some Metals Are More Active Than Others Chemistry
Investigation 6: Electric Language Physics
Investigation 7: Magnetic Attraction Physics
Investigation 8: Plug in that Magnet Physics
Investigation 9: From One Current to Another Physics and Earth/Space
Investigation 10: Going Buggy Biology
