Hands-On Craft Activity

As you have learned, parades are an important part of Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Design and decorate a model of a float that could appear in a Cinco de Mayo parade. Your float should reflect the history and spirit of the holiday of Cinco de Mayo. Below is a list of materials to get you started making your float, but you may also think of other items to use that will enhance the look of your float. Display your completed floats around the classroom!

• shoebox (this will serve as the base of your float)
• scissors
• tape or glue
• popsicle sticks
• construction paper or other decorative paper
• ribbon
• yarn
• markers or crayons
