On December 13, 2003, U.S.
forces captured ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein in Operation
Red Dawn.
Upon Hussein’s capture, President
George W. Bush said, “In the history of Iraq, a dark
and painful era is over.”
Many contested the U.S.-led war waged
on Iraq and its place in the “War on Terror.”
No one, however, contested the capacity for evil of the volatile
Saddam. He was a ruthless dictator who used chemical weapons
on his own citizens, executed hundreds of thousands of people,
and terrified his Arab neighbors.
