Veterans Day is celebrated
annually on November 11 in honor of the men and women
who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The holiday
commemorates the armistice that ended World War I on November
11, 1918. Originally the celebration was known as “Armistice
Day,” and it became a national holiday in 1938.
In 1954, President Eisenhower changed the name of the
holiday to “Veterans Day” in order to honor
American veterans of all wars.
