Hundreds of people have been killed in recent months in a border conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia. The conflict concerns Badame, a 160-square mile triangular piece of land that both countries claim belongs to them. Although the land is located in a remote area and is rocky and semi-arid, both sides view the dispute as a test of national sovereignty. Efforts to resolve the conflict peacefully have failed, and there is fear that the fighting could develop into a full-scale war.
