Introduction
Since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, many of the former republics have begun to establish their presence in the world community. One way of doing that is by creating a Web site about their country. The Republic of Kazakhstan's site is full of interesting information about the geography, history, and culture of the country. You can even listen to some of its music online.

Start at the Republic of Kazakstan's home page.

  • Click on English.
  • Click on Kazakstan in the menu on the left of the screen.
  • Click on General Information.
  • Scroll down and read the information. Then answer the following questions.

1. What are the geographic coordinates of Kazakhstan?


2. What are some of the natural hazards in Kazakhstan?


3. Why is the Aral Sea shrinking?


4. Under the topic "Ethnic Groups" click on Origins of Kazaks. What does "kazak" mean?


5. Use the information you find on this site to create a travel brochure for Kazakhstan. Include a map, pictures, and places to visit, as well as other interesting facts.
