Introduction
In this chapter students read about the many countries of
West Africa. Some are in the Sahel, while others are located
along the coast. Senegal is one of the coastal countries of
West Africa. In fact, it is the westernmost tip of Africa.
Lesson Description
Students will visit Senegal Online. Here they can learn about
the history, geography, people, and wildlife of Senegal. After
answering several questions and viewing some postcards of
Old Senegal, they will create a mobile about this West African
nation.
National Geography Standards:
Standard 1: The geographically informed person knows and understands
how to use maps and other geographic representations, tools,
and technologies to acquire, process, and report information
from a spatial perspective.
Standard 4: The geographically informed person knows and understands
the physical and human characteristics of places.
Instructional Objectives
- The student will be able to list important facts about
Senegal.
- The student will be able interpret information from a
map of Senegal.
- The student will be able to create a mobile of important
features of Senegal.

- The note of 1959 had pictures of a village and tribal
setting. The note of today also features a woman's head,
but the background is more modern.
