Chapter 1: Researching Historical Thinkers
|
Sociological imagination is a creative gift just like other
kinds of imagining. It is largely the ability to look at old
things and see them in a new way. As you develop this ability
in yourself, take some time and research one of the great thinkers
of sociology's past. What led these thinkers to think differently?
How did sociological imagination develop in one of them? The
Dead Sociologists' Index is a good place to start. Find
it on the Internet at www2.pfeiffer.edu/~Iridener/DSS/INDEX.HTML
Write a five-page essay about the thinker you have chosen.
In your essay, explore how the thinker's life influenced his
thoughts, leading him to the sociological perspective. What
led him to have certain thoughts for the first time? Be sure
to document your research, citing your sources and including
a Works Cited page at the end of your essay.
