Chapter 11: Understanding Gender Bias

Some of the most enduring preconceptions in our society are related to sex and gender. As you learned in this chapter, sex and gender are two different things, and one does not necessarily imply the other. So why is it that these preconceptions persist? How is it that reason and truth can fail to persuade?

Begin your investigation by visiting the Gender and Society Web page at www.trinity.edu/~mkearl/gender.html Then write a five-page essay answering the question, "Why do preconceptions based on gender persist?" Use the Gender and Society Web page and its related links to garner support for your opinion. Include a Works Cited page at the end of your paper.
