Chapter 7: Deliver a Speech on Juvenile Justice

Although individuals are ultimately responsible for their actions, social influences do contribute to the decisions people make. Crime and deviance is an area of study in which this influence is often quite profound and disturbing. The boundary between psychology and sociology blurs, and a fine distinction emerges: societal pressures are partly responsible for someone's development, but they are not responsible for that person's actions.

Deepen your understanding of crimes committed by people your own age. Begin your research at the Juvenile Justice Center at www.abanet.org/crimjust/juvjus/home.html Write a speech in which you address the issue of juvenile crime and offer solutions. Be sure to support your opinions with facts from your research. Deliver your speech to your class.
