Chapter 9: Identifying Goals and Strategies

As Americans, upward mobility is something we often hear and think about. Moving up from humble beginnings can be done, but it is difficult. In addition to ability, a good deal can be said for luck and simply being in the right place at the right time. As you saw in this chapter, talented and good people often go unrecognized, and hard work is not always rewarded the same.

Research stratification on the Internet at http://www.trinity.edu/mkearl/strat.html Then think about what your own goals are in life. What career would you choose for yourself? Research this career, and discover what obstacles might stand in your way. How will you overcome these obstacles? Keep a journal for three pages on the topic, and be prepared to hand in your journal.
