Chapter 5: The 13 English Colonies
"Diggin' in the Dirt"

Introduction
In this chapter you learned that the settlers at Jamestown faced tremendous hardship. Unaccustomed to living in the wilderness, the settlers knew little about farming and had no resistance to deadly epidemics such as malaria and typhoid fever. Yet the ones who survived left their mark for archaeologists today. Join the archaeologists from Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA), and discover what they found in their ongoing excavation at Jamestown.
