Chapter 7: Into the West
"The Chisholm Trail" |
Introduction
In this chapter, you learned that while the settlement of the West was tragic for the Native Americans, it offered irresistible opportunities for settlers. Natural resources and open spaces attracted miners, farmers, and investors. The cattle industry created profits for ranchers and cowhands. In this activity you will learn more about the Chisholm Trail and discover where millions of cattle crossed the Red River into Indian Territory and made their way to railroad shipping centers in Missouri and Kansas.
