Chapter 8: The Rise of Industry
"A New Land"

Introduction
In this chapter, you learned that important developments in science and technology helped to make the growth of industry possible. But that was only part of the industrialization equation. The factories, mines, mills, and other industries needed workers, and the millions of immigrants who arrived between 1860 and 1900 were ready to work. Visit Ellis Island and learn about the Statue of Liberty, two important symbols for millions of immigrants who arrived in the late 1800s.
