"Where Is It?"

Introduction

Students have read about the geography theme of location. In this exercise, students will use the Internet to determine absolute and relative location for two cities in the continental United States.

Lesson Description

Students will use information from the How Far Is It? Web site to learn about absolute and relative locations. Students will use the Internet to discover the absolute and relative locations of two U.S. cities and the distance between the two. Students will also generate maps and driving directions. Students will then answer four questions and apply this information by creating a map that illustrates their research.

Instructional Objectives

  1. Students will research absolute and relative locations for two U.S. cities.
  2. Students will be able to use this knowledge to create a map that illustrates their research about absolute and relative location.
