Emotions/feelings with estar

In my Spanish I classes, we are presently working with emotions/feelings with estar. As an alternative to the textbook pictures, I decided to try something new, different, and hopefully, more interesting. After teaching the emotions through TPR, I assigned an emotion to each pair of students and gave them two minutes to figure out how best to act out/demonstrate that feeling. Then, I used a digital camera to take pictures of each pair and put the photos into a PowerPoint presentation and added appropriate captions. Using the timing delays, we can review the vocabulary with our new visuals, and students are more attentive than normal because they are the stars of the presentation. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at jethanie@tbcnet.com.

Editor's note: This same concept can be applied to other vocabulary presentations, such as illnesses (Bienvenidos, Capítulo 10) and clothing (Bienvenidos, Capítulo 13), and to other languages. If students have access to a PowerPoint program, have them prepare the presentations themselves. If you do not have a digital camera, you could use a Polaroid camera and post the pictures in the classroom.
