CHAPITRE 1
Explorons la France!

National Standards Communication 1.2 / Cultures 2.1, 2.2 / Connections 3.1, 3.2 / Comparisons 4.1, 4.2

Activité pour l'élève
Objective
  • Introduce students to cities (excluding Paris) in different regions of France.

Notes

  • The Internet activity for the introductory chapter Bienvenue (Leçons préliminaires A–F) is also a map activity. It should be done before this activity since it will help familiarize students with the geography of France -- including where the cities are located -- and the French words for geographical terms.

  • Advise students that they may not be able to answer all the worksheet questions about each site.

  • Students will no doubt be amused by the fractured English they'll find at some of the French Web sites. This will help them realize that English can be just as hard to learn as French! Have students jot down any particularly interesting mistakes they find to share with the class.

Expansion
  • If students are able to download the photos and print them out, have them prepare a travel brochure about their cities. Display the brochures around a wall-size map of France in the classroom. Have students vote on which city is the most interesting, beautiful, etc.
