Objectives

  • Use the vocabulary from Chapitre 10 to talk about sports in French

  • Familiarize students with some sports and teams that are popular in France

Notes

  • Remind students to apply their knowledge of sports and sporting activities as well as their understanding of cognates to determine the meanings of the unfamiliar words they will encounter as they work through this activity.

  • If students want to find out more about le foot, the most popular sport in France, they should visit the second Web site listed, the Fédération française de football.

  • In the Après avoir surfé section, have students pair up with someone who chose different sports in order to maximize the opportunities to learn new vocabulary.

Expansion

  • Have students write a short news article in French about a sports event involving a school or local sports team.
