• Familiarize students with artists in the Spanish-speaking world and their work

Notes

• If your students are interested in modern art, have them access the Museo Virtual de Artes El País in Uruguay rather than the Museo del Prado. If they are interested in 20th Century Mexican art, they should access the Diego Rivera Museo Virtual.

• If your students choose to visit the Museo del Prado, they will be seeing only the 50 most famous works in the museum. Remind them that not all of the paintings are by Spanish artists and ask them to check the notes for each painting to verify the nationality of the artist before choosing a work of art.

Expansion

• Use the images that the students downloaded and printed out to set up an art exhibition in your classroom. Invite other Spanish classes or art classes to visit your exhibition. Have students vote on which paintings are the most interesting, the prettiest, the most bizarre, etc.
