CAPÍTULO 1
Una exploración de España

Student Activity

Objective

  • Introduce students to cities in Spain

Notes

  • The Internet activity for the introductory chapter Bienvenidos (Lecciones preliminares) is also a map activity. You may wish to have students familiarize themselves with the map of Spain in that activity before they do this activity. It will help familiarize them with the geography of Spain, the location of the cities, and the Spanish words for geographical terms.

  • Advise students that they may not be able to answer all the worksheet questions about each site.

  • Tell students that the Spanish cities are organized by region at the Turespaña site. They must run their cursor over the name of the region to see a list of cities.

Expansion

  • If students are able to download the photos and print them out, have them prepare a travel brochure about their cities. Display students' brochures around a wall-size map of Spain in the classroom. Have students vote on which city is the most interesting, beautiful, etc.

  • If you would like to plan a Spanish food day with your students, click on the link below. You will find recipes for local food specialties from several of the cities featured on the interactive map of Spain. Click on the Metric Conversion link if you need to convert the measurements into ounces and pounds. Click on the Tabla de conversión.
