These Writing Assessment and Evaluation Rubrics can help you evaluate the writing your students do throughout the school year. Here you'll find one or more rubrics corresponding to each writing assignment in Writer's Choice. Use either the General Rubric for Analytic Evaluation or the General Rubric for Holistic Evaluation to assess any writing assignment, or choose rubrics that correlate to particular writing modes, including persuasive, descriptive, narrative, expository, and personal.

In addition, you can view and print annotated models of above-average, average, and below-average writing. Each model includes a summary of its strengths and weaknesses as well as a holistic and an analytic score.

To get the most of these Writing Assessment and Evaluation Rubrics, make your selection from the grade level menu below and read the introductory essays, "Strategies for Effective Writing Assessment" and "Methods for Evaluating Student Writing."
